The soundboard is the soul of the piano. The soundboard performs much like a speaker, picking up the slightest resonances and amplifying them into audible tones. For centuries, the finest stringed instruments have been crafted from Spruce because the wood has excellent properties for capturing the tone, color, warmth and power of the instrument. Before the wood is used by the instrument maker, it is quarter-sawn for tightness of grain, then kiln dried for stabilization. The wood is carefully selected for each piano and every soundboard is meticulously handcrafted. Steigerman soundboards are constructed using 100% Spruce.
